NewsNotes, January 2002, Tony O'Regan
I enjoyed participating in many special events this
past year. I was asked to be a feature 'performer'
- DRAWING at the Shadbolt Centre Blues Festival. Try
to imagine being up at a concert stage doing 20 large
scale charcoal drawings of the headline performers
with 3500 people watching for 5 hours
sure cure
for stagefright! They gave me a one-man show at The
Centre afterwards, called "Sketchin' with the
Blues". By the way, please see the drawings and
some other recent things on my newly revamped website:
www.tonyoregan.com which is designed so I can constantly
update it with news, photos of art and workshop events,
downloadable resources for artists, etc. The new website
should be up by Jan. 13. Please visit and give me
some FEEDBACK. A very rewarding experience in 2001
was a five-Monday workshop at an elementary school
in White Rock called "Drawing the Ancient World".
All these workshops have been great fun and my own
work has been heading in promising new directions.
It's also been great to see several of my former workshop
participants launching their own exhibitions!
Hope to see you again this term,
Tony O'Regan
RiverBoating in France
- Summer 2002.
In participation with British Columbia Automobile
Association I am planning a group trip to France for
painting and sketching on a RiverBoat Cruise! I have
enclosed an itinerary and other details. Besides being
a dream vacation for artists, it will, of course,
also be excellent for photography - great for participants
and their friends or spouses! Participants will be
able to extend and customize their travel. You are
cordially invited to a "River Cruise Night"
information session at BCAA head office in Burnaby
(4567 Canada Way across from BCIT). All the particulars
of the trip will be presented. During the evening
I will be doing live sketches and a watercolour of
a French Village as a doorprize, drawn-for during
the evening. Hope you can make it - January 30, 2002
at 7pm. (RSVP by Jan 23, 2002 so we can plan the size
of the room )-

Gary Blakeley and Chris Cameron are showing black/white,

72nd Ave .Surrey Campus until January 28, 2002.
This show is well worth taking in if you get a chance!
UBC: enjoyed teaching several of the course modules
in the Garden Design Program at UBC this past Summer.
All the fun parts of Architecture
and gardens,
too! This program will happen again in 2003.
SFU: taught perspective drawing for Urban Design
within the new Urban Design Certificate Program
at SFU City Program. Suggest you check this part
time program out if you are in the design field.
Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design: Pleased
to say my courses, Creative Drawing and Architecture,
Perspective for artists and Designers and Building
Architectural Models and Maquettes seem to have
become regulars in the certificate programs each
term.
Kwantlen University College: Now on the teaching
Faculty at Kwantlen in Painting and in the Interior
Design Program. Kwantlen also invited me to conduct
an outdoor Designer's Sketch Camp again this past
September. It was a delight to see all the new faces
entering the design profession.
BarnStorming was a super success last summer! I
still hear from the participants. We had a wonderful
group of people sketching, painting and photographing
for a weekend at several beautiful and evocative
farm sites in rural Langley, centred at Susan Falk's
country acreage in Langley, BC.
